Everyone has fear and anxiety. For some of us, these ten bible verses might be all we need to re-anchor ourselves back into God’s security and fight through the battle in our mind. Some of us might need additional support, sometimes simple, like music, a journal, or a good friend, and sometimes professional, like therapists and doctors.   And some of us might need meds to help us balance all those pesky chemicals that make it more challenging to fight anxiety.  One level of struggle doesn’t make us closer or farther from God than anyone else. It just means our struggles are as unique to each of us as our strengths.

I do feel the need to point out that these verses are not to be a fortune cookie handout to someone you know who struggles with anxiety, especially at a medical level.  Handing these to someone struggling and not standing with them through the storm is like handing a soldier 100 weapons and saying you have plenty of weapons now; you can win this war on your own.  You can’t just give someone the resources to fight; you also need to be their backup sometimes.

The Bible says we are to mourn with those who mourn and rejoice with those who rejoice. So, I’m sure, somewhere between those two verses is struggling with those who struggle. So, if you want to battle anxiety with someone you love, use these verses to arm yourself well and pray to be the backup they need rather than leaving them alone in their battle with your resources.

Matthew 6:25-34

“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

Psalms 34:19

The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time.

Isaiah 35:4

Say to those with fearful hearts,
“Be strong, and do not fear,
for your God is coming to destroy your enemies.
He is coming to save you.”

Isaiah 40:31

But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

John 14:1

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.

Luke 12:22

Then, turning to his disciples, Jesus said, “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food to eat or enough clothes to wear.

Psalm 94:19

When doubts filled my mind,
your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.

Romans 8:38-39

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Philippians 4:6-7

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
